Rumours: the standard edition of Marathon will cost $40, and the open beta will be launched in August
After the high-profile announcement of Bungie's Marathon, one of the most discussed moments was the confirmation that the game will not be free to play. Although the developers do not call it a full-fledged AAA title in terms of price, they promise to reveal more information only this summer. However, insider sources, cited by Paul Tassi from Forbes, claim that the game will cost USD 40.
Here's What We Know
This price tag does not seem too strange, as it is the same price for multiplayer projects such as Helldivers 2 and Concord (though it was closed).
Tassi also noted that Bungie has no plans to switch Marathon to a free-to-play model. However, those who want to get acquainted with the game before the release will probably have an opportunity to do so in August - according to rumours, this is when the open beta testing will take place for absolutely everyone.
After the beta ends, players will reportedly be able to pre-order the game and its "various editions". Will the price be officially announced along with the announcement of the open beta? We will find out later.
As a reminder, the official release of Marathon is scheduled for 23 September for PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5, and the closed alpha test will start on 23 April.
By the way, Bungie cancels the NDA for the Marathon alpha test after a controversial presentation.
