A dozen concept art for the mysterious Star Wars Eclipse game have been found, giving a better understanding of the diversity of races in the future story
More than three years have passed since Quantic Dream intrigued the world with the announcement of its next game - an ambitious project in the Star Wars universe, whose trailer became one of the main events of The Game Awards 2021.
Unfortunately, this loud announcement was followed by almost absolute silence. Although this is understandable given the early stage of development at the time of the announcement, further events did not add to the optimism of fans of the franchise. The dismissal of the project's lead writer and the restructuring of NetEase, the owner of the studio, raised questions about the game's future. However, according to rumours, Star Wars: Eclipse is scheduled for release in 2027. In the meantime, if you want to get a glimpse behind the scenes of the development, we have an interesting find for you - early concepts of races and characters that may inhabit the world of this upcoming game.
Here's What We Know
The illustrations come from the portfolio of an artist who briefly worked on the project. Thirteen images show different characters in a variety of costumes and visual styles. Three of them belong to species familiar to Star Wars fans, as the file names indicate: Xenos, Rodian and Gungan, the race of the infamous Jar Jar Binks. In addition, there are designs of smugglers, each with unique outfits and equipment.
Two characters are distinguished not so much by their appearance as by the names of their respective images: "Travis" and "Jotraaaz Kammzzzek" (another addition to the collection of funny names in the Star Wars universe). The use of the characters' names instead of their races may indicate that they play a more important role in the plot than the others presented here.
We do not know what roles these characters will play in the story, so we can only speculate. We came closest to understanding the plot of Star Wars: Eclipse plot was back in 2022, when Colin Moriarty revealed some details on the Sacred Symbols podcast. According to rumours, the story will revolve around the main character named Sarah, a representative of the Zaraan Empire, a new humanoid race for the Star Wars universe.
Either way, these early concepts provide an interesting glimpse into Quantic Dream's creative process and imagine what their interpretation of a galaxy far, far away will be like.
