Samsung is preparing to enter the tri-fold phone market, and its first model is likely to be called the Galaxy G Fold. This will be a reaction to Huawei, which has already introduced its Mate XT Ultimate, setting a high standard for foldable smartphones.

Here's What We Know

Although Samsung's Galaxy G Fold promises new innovations, it may lag behind Huawei's Mate XT Ultimate in several ways. In particular, Samsung's foldable display is likely to be a maximum of 9.9 inches, which is slightly smaller than the Mate XT Ultimate's 10.2 inches. Although the difference is small, in a competitive foldable phone market, it could affect buyers' choices.

In terms of hardware, Samsung is likely to have the edge, especially in terms of chipset. Due to sanctions against China, Huawei cannot use the latest components from some suppliers, which gives Samsung an advantage. However, the Mate XT Ultimate already supports 66W fast charging, while Samsung's new product is likely to have a maximum of 25W.

The Mate XT Ultimate is virtually unavailable in the US and is mostly sold in China, meaning that Samsung's new product will have limited competition in key markets, particularly South Korea and the US.

Samsung is expected to produce only 200,000 units of the Galaxy G Fold, so its availability will be limited to a few key regions. Whether the phone will be available in other regions remains to be seen, but competition from Huawei is unlikely to pose a serious threat in Samsung's core markets.
