Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck gets an electric version with permanent four-wheel drive

Isuzu UK has unveiled the production version of the new Isuzu D-Max EV. It is positioned as the first all-electric commercial pick-up truck on the European market with a payload of more than 1 tonne, the ability to tow a trailer weighing up to 3.5 tonnes and permanent four-wheel drive.
Here's What We Know
The Isuzu D-Max EV will be publicly unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham this week. The official UK sales launch is not expected until February 2026.
Externally, the D-Max EV is almost identical to the diesel D-Max, but instead of an internal combustion engine, it has a pair of electric motors - one on each axle. The two motors provide a combined output of 140 kW (190 hp) and 325 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 10.1 seconds and the top speed is limited at 130 km/h.
Electricity is supplied to the motors from a 66.9 kWh battery located under the floor. The claimed range in the WLTP cycle is 263 kilometres and the maximum charging capacity is -50 kW. In this case, it is possible to top up the charge from 20 to 80 per cent in about one hour.

It is important to note that the battery does not significantly affect the off-road abilities of the D-Max: the electric version has a ground clearance of 210 mm and a depth of 600 mm. The entry and exit angles are 30.5 and 24.2 degrees respectively. In addition to permanent all-wheel drive, the D-Max EV has a special Rough Terrain Mode for "extreme off-road capability".
Although the electric vehicle uses the same frame as the existing diesel pickup, Isuzu has developed a newDe Dion axle-type rear suspension for it instead of the conventional leaf spring suspension. This design decision should have a positive effect on handling. The curb weight of the D-Max EV is 2350kg.

Otherwise, the D-Max EV is virtually identical to the diesel D-Max, both inside and out, right down to the specification, which includes a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration, digital dashboard, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors and heated front seats.
In the UK, the D-Max EV is only available in a double cab version for now. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it is likely to be significantly more expensive than the diesel D-Max, which starts from £36,505 excluding VAT.
Pre-sales will start in the second half of this year, with the first customers receiving their D-Max EVs in March 2026.
