Competition in the market of AI-technologies is rapidly gaining momentum and OpenAI company, which was a pioneer in this field and still remains a leader in its segment, may reconsider the terms of cooperation with its key partner - Microsoft.

Here's What We Know

The Financial Times reported that Microsoft and OpenAI are in complex negotiations to renegotiate the terms of their multi-billion dollar partnership.

OpenAI is looking to restructure the business while retaining control of the non-profit board, while Microsoft is discussing its stake in the new structure and access to OpenAI's technology after 2030. One of the key issues remains the number of shares Microsoft will get in the new OpenAI business for the $13bn already invested.

OpenAI also wants to go public to raise additional capital and increase its autonomy without losing control of its business.

It is not yet known where the negotiations between Microsoft and OpenAI will lead, but several scenarios are hypothetically possible:

  • stronger co-operation - if the parties reach an agreement, Microsoft could gain even more opportunities to use OpenAI's technology, strengthening its position in the AI market;
  • if negotiations reach an impasse, OpenAI could seek other partners and Microsoft could develop its own AI models;
  • if the parties fail to reach an agreement, OpenAI's structure may change, which will affect who controls the company and what strategies will be adopted.

Undoubtedly, these talks will determine the future of the technology and its availability, so we await official announcements.
