The five millionth Fabia, an entry-level model that has played a key role in the brand's modern history, recently rolled off the assembly line at Skoda Auto's plant in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. Since its debut in 1999, the Fabia, along with the Octavia, has become one of the symbols of the revitalised brand, offering customers space, practicality and thoughtful solutions at a reasonable price. Today, the fourth generation of the model is already produced, and the manufacturer has no reason to abandon it.

Here's What We Know

Skoda Fabia is steadily among the best-selling models of the brand. In 2024, it took the third place by sales volume, having sold 117 100 cars worldwide. Its history began at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1999, where a five-door hatchback on a new Volkswagen Group platform was presented. Already in the next year there was a version with a station wagon body, and in 2001 - a sedan.

1st generation (1999-2008): was based on the PQ24 platform, characterised by a wide choice of motors and bodies. In 2003, the Fabia RS with a diesel 1.9 TDI (96 kW) appeared.

2nd generation (2007-2014): became longer and taller, added a Scout station wagon and an RS version with a 1.4 TSI petrol engine (132 kW). A more premium Monte Carlo specification debuted in 2011.

3rd generation (2014-2022): changed proportions, moved to the PQ26 platform and received advanced safety systems including adaptive cruise control and driver fatigue monitoring. After a restyling in 2018, the model has LED headlights and blind spot monitoring for the first time.

4th generation (from 2021): built on the MQB A0 platform, increased in length (over 4.1 metres), increased boot volume (up to 380 litres). Optionally equipped with the Travel Assist 2.0 driving assistance system, automatic parking system, as well as systems for sign recognition and protection of pedestrians and cyclists.

In addition to its popularity among private buyers, the Fabia has also achieved success in motorsport. The various versions - Fabia Rally2, Rally2 evo and RS Rally2 - are considered one of the most successful rally cars in their class.

Skoda has promised to continue production of the Fabia with internal combustion engines after 2030.
