Ghosts are migrating to cinemas: popular horror game Phasmophobia will get a film adaptation by the creators of Astral and The Conjuring

The horror game Phasmophobia is preparing to bring its horrors from monitors to big screens. The popular game developed by the British studio Kinetic Games, which was released on PC in early access in 2020 and then appeared on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in October 2024, will now become a full-fledged film.
Here's What We Know
The project is being developed by one of the most famous names in the world of horror: the renowned production company Blumhouse and its subsidiary studio Atomic Monster. Blumhouse is known for such horror series as Paranormal Activity, Astral, Fright Night, M3GAN, and the Halloween reboot trilogy.
Atomic Monster is helmed by James Wan (writer of Astral, The Nun and the Spell films).
"We're thrilled to officially announce that a film adaptation of Phasmophobia is in development - this is a great moment for the entire Kinetic team and the start of something truly exciting," said Daniel Knight, director of Kinect Games and lead developer of Phasmophobia, in a statement.
"We could never have imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it was released five years ago, and we are so grateful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond."
"The collaboration with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can't wait to share more as the project develops."
Phasmophobia is a game played by up to four players and involves exploring a series of haunted locations as a paranormal investigator. The film is likely to focus on the tension, atmosphere, and sudden "screamers" that the game is known for. The opportunity to see familiar tools such as EMF detectors and Spirit Boxes on the big screen, as well as to experience the same feelings of fear and uncertainty, will undoubtedly attract both fans of the game and horror fans.
