Last year Ford won the famous race to the top of Pikes Peak. The 1400 hp F-150 Lightning SuperTruck was driven by French driver Romain Dumas. In 2023, Romain Dumas finished second in the equally powerful SuperVan. This year, Ford wants to win again, but with a special Mustang Mach-E.

Here's What We Know

The company showed the first photos of its electric car late last month. Immediately catching the eye were the huge anti-wing and aggressive aerodynamic dodger. Today, Ford has revealed all the details about its car for Pikes Peak 2025 - and it could be even cooler than its predecessors.

The new Mach-E has three electric motors with a total output of 1,421bhp. That's slightly more than the SuperTruck and SuperVan, which produced exactly 1,400bhp each.

The car has an 800-volt architecture and is equipped with a 50-kilowatt-hour battery. The electric powertrain is now 260 pounds (about 118 kilograms) lighter than last year's.

To make sure all that power successfully navigates the 156 corners of the Pikes Peak course, Ford has put special forged magnesium rims with Pirelli P-Zero tyres on the Mach-E. Carbon-fibre brakes help shed speed, while aggressive aerodynamics create 6,900lb (about 3,130kg) of downforce at 150mph. At 200 mph, downforce reaches 12,000 pounds (more than 5,400 kg). Admittedly, you won't see speeds like that at Pikes Peak. That's more than originally claimed (6,125 pounds) and better than the SuperTruck and SuperVan - they had downforce of 6,000 and 4,400 pounds, respectively.

The race at Pikes Peak 2025 starts on 22 June. The nearly 20-kilometre course climbs to an altitude of more than 4,300 metres above sea level. At this altitude, the air is thin, which makes it difficult for conventional motors to work. But electric motors do not suffer from this - that's why electric cars are increasingly winning this legendary race.
