The console war continues: Sony comments on Xbox's possible exit from the market, and reveals the real reason why cloud gaming is still losing to consoles

During a recent report, Sony revealed a lot of information about its plans for Sony Interactive Entertainment and, consequently, PlayStation. However, the most interesting thing is the opinion on the likelihood that Microsoft will leave the console business. This is a question that worries millions of gamers, and SIE President and CEO Hideaki Nishino gave his frank answer.
Here's What We Know
When asked whether the absence of an Xbox competitor in the future would be good or bad for the company, Nishino said that a certain level of competition is good for the industry. "So, we think competition in business is healthy and pushes us to innovate," Nishino said. "There are multiple players driving the overall gaming industry together, and while new models of interaction are being explored, we ultimately believe that this is a good thing. However, as I mentioned earlier, we are confident in our current strategy. We don't have an immediate need to change course, but we will continue to monitor game patterns appropriately as needed."
Nishino also spoke about a number of other things regarding the future of PlayStation. When asked about the PlayStation, Nishino said that while cloud streaming is an exciting technology where progress is being made, the company's lack of control over network stability remains a concern. Ultimately, Nishino notes that this technology is proving to be more expensive for the company than simply selling games in a more traditional way.
"Cloud streaming is progressing well from a technical point of view, as we have demonstrated with our offerings, but the stability of the network from end to end is not under our control," Nishino said. "And the higher cost per play time compared to the traditional console model remains an issue."
"Cloud gaming is increasingly providing an additional option for players to access content, but we believe that most players continue to want to enjoy games without being dependent on network conditions. And the PS5 and PS5 Pro, I believe, have proven that point."
