AMD unveiled Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 processors and Radeon AI PRO 9000 graphics for professional, AI and big data workloads

AMD announced new Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 series processors and Radeon AI PRO 9000 professional graphics accelerators. The new products are focused on artificial intelligence, 3D rendering, video and scientific computing.
Here's What We Know
Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 processors are built on Zen 5 architecture and use sTR5 socket. The maximum configuration is 96 cores and 192 threads (model 9995WX). Support for eight-channel DDR5-6400 ECC memory and up to 128 PCIe Gen 5 lanes is also announced.
The top model 9995WX operates with a base frequency of 2.5 GHz, rising to 5.4 GHz. It has 384MB of L3 cache and a heat package of 350W.
The regular Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series (without PRO) was also presented. Thus, the 9980X model offers 64 cores and 128 threads, supports quad-channel DDR5 and up to 48 PCIe 5.0 lanes.

Radeon AI PRO 9000 graphics accelerators are built on RDNA 4 architecture. The older model, the R9700, includes 128 AI accelerators, features 32GB of GDDR6 memory and offers performance up to 96 TFLOPS (FP16) and 1531 TOPS (INT4). It is claimed to support language model handling of up to 32 billion parameters per card and up to 123 billion in a bundle of four GPUs.

According to AMD the new hardware will provide:
- up to 2.2x performance increase in Cinebench 2024 compared to Intel Xeon W9-3595X;
- up to 26% boost in professional tasks compared to the 7000 generation;
- up to 25 per cent acceleration in AI/ML tasks.
The new processors work with existing TRX50 and WRX90 motherboards after a BIOS update. This makes upgrading less costly, especially for workstations.
AMD promises to start shipping the new components from July. Threadripper Pro 9000s will be available through OEM partners and workstation builders, while Radeon AI Pro 9000s will be available through ASUS, Gigabyte, Sapphire and other manufacturers.
