China's Q2 2025 iPhone sales grow for the first time after two years of decline: +8%

After two years of decline, Apple has managed to achieve growth in the iPhone market in China, with sales up 8% in the second quarter of 2025, thanks to successful price promotions and subsidies.
Here's What We Know
Smartphone sales in China grew in the second quarter of 2025, and Apple is one of the leaders of this growth. The company recorded an 8 per cent increase in iPhone sales, the first positive result since 2023.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models performed particularly well, with promotions and subsidies in May ahead of the major "618" sale fuelling customer interest. In addition, iPhone sales also grew globally in the reporting period, with an increase of 15 per cent YoY in April and May, partly due to success in China.

After a significant dip in 2024, when sales fell 18% and Apple slipped to third place in the market, Chinese consumers are gradually returning to iPhones.
Government subsidies on smartphones (up to 15% discounts) and Apple's skilful pricing policies have helped popularise iPhone 16 models - especially the Pro-series - among Chinese users.
Counterpoint warns that growth may slow down after the subsidy scheme ends, but the trend now is positive.
Huawei, despite sanctions, is still strengthening its position and remains a major competitor, but Apple is competing strongly in the premium segment.
