Volvo will start producing Polestar 7 in Slovakia to circumvent duties on cars from China

Volvo Cars has announced that from 2028 the Polestar 7 compact electric crossover will be produced at the company's new plant in Košice, Slovakia. It will be the first Polestar built in Europe - a move aimed at reducing dependence on Chinese production and avoiding duties on Chinese cars in Europe and the US.
Here's What We Know
Volvo's new plant in Slovakia will be able to produce up to 250,000 cars a year. First there will launch the production of an electric car under the Volvo brand, and next - Polestar 7.
Recall that Polestar appeared as a sub-brand of Volvo, but since 2017 became independent. Now the owners of Polestar are Geely Holding and Volvo Cars.
Where Polestar is currently made:
- Polestar 2 - made in China (Geely), US deliveries have been discontinued due to duties.
- Polestar 3 - assembled in China and at Volvo's plant in South Carolina, USA.
- Polestar 4 - produced in China and South Korea (Renault plant).
Polestar 7 is built on Volvo's new SPA3 platform, which will also underpin the future Volvo EX60, the electric counterpart to the best-selling XC60.
