The crisis in the RAM market continues and is pushing most manufacturers into unpopular decisions.

Soon after Apple shook up the laptop market by releasing a budget-friendly Macbook Neo, which is selling so well that the company faced a shortage of A18 Pro chips, Microsoft, on the contrary, significantly raised prices on its business laptops.

What is known

Today, Microsoft announced a price increase of the current Surface series model and directly linked this move to the RAM shortage. The flagship models Surface Pro 11 (13”) and Surface Laptop 7 (13.8”) increased in price by $500 compared to the 2024 prices!

Price comparison

Model Old price $ New price $
Surface Pro 13 999 1499
Surface Pro 12 799 1049
Surface Laptop 13 899 1199
Surface Laptop 13.8 999 1499
Surface Laptop 15 1299 1599

But the biggest tragedy occurred for those who planned to purchase a top-tier Surface Laptop (15”) with a Snapdragon X Elite chip, 64 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD, which before the price increase cost around $2,500, but now it's going to cost $3600.

It is noteworthy that laptops, previously positioned as relatively affordable work models, have now approached the price of premium models, and perhaps this is not the last increase in prices, as Microsoft stated that it will continue to adjust prices depending on the market situation.

In the near future, a presentation of the new Surface model is expected, and at best, its price will be at the level of the top models of the current generation.
