The popular brand Alienware, owned by Dell, has made a real breakthrough in the gaming display market by presenting the AW2726DM model. The main sensation is the price: only $349.99 for a 27" QD-OLED monitor with a 240 Hz refresh rate.

Such an aggressive price makes OLED technology accessible to the mass gamer, moving them from the premium segment to the 'Must-have' category.

Main characteristics

The monitor is based on a QD-OLED matrix from Samsung Display and offers an impressive combination of speed and image quality:

  • resolution: 2560 x 1440 (QHD);
  • refresh rate: 240 Hz (via DisplayPort) and 120 Hz (via HDMI);
  • response time: phenomenal 0.03 ms (GtG);
  • color gamut: 99% DCI-P3 and 10-bit color depth;
  • synchronization technologies: AMD FreeSync Premium and VESA AdaptiveSync;
  • HDR 10 support (peak brightness in HDR reaches 400 nits).

Compromises for affordability

To achieve an attractive price of $350, the manufacturer had to make some concessions. In particular, the typical brightness in SDR mode is only 200 nits. This is sufficient for shaded rooms, but in a brightly lit room, the image may appear dim. It is also worth noting that HDMI ports are limited to 120 Hz, so to fully realize the potential of 240 Hz, a DisplayPort 1.4 connection is required.

Protection and warranty

Despite the low cost, Alienware spared no expense on reliability: the company implemented a cooling system with a graphite film for heat dissipation from the panel and offers a 3-year warranty that officially covers the risk of pixel burn-in.

The monitor has an ergonomic stand with height adjustment (130 mm), tilt, swivel, and portrait mode rotation (Pivot).

The Alienware AW2726DM monitor is already available for order on the official Dell website.
