Shortly after the newly appointed head of Xbox, Asha Sharma, acknowledged that the Game Pass subscription had become too expensive for most gamers, which put an end to its popularization, she took active steps and made an important announcement.

What's known

From April 21, the cost of Game Pass Ultimate is reduced from $29.99 to $22.99 per month, and PC Game Pass from $16.49 to $13.99. However, a huge compromise had to be made: as insiders reported, new parts of Call of Duty will no longer appear in Game Pass immediately after release. The shooters will, as before, be in the subscription, but now this will happen closer to the winter holidays of the following year.

This innovation will not be delayed, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, expected to release in October 2026, will have to be purchased at full price by those who want to play it at release, and it will only appear in the subscription at the end of 2027, after the release of a new game.

Earlier, analysts stated that the idea to buy Activision Blizzard for $70 billion to add Call of Duty to Game Pass was disastrous since it caused a radical pricing imbalance of the subscription and also knocked back sales of one of the most popular franchises, resulting in losses for both Microsoft and Activision.

As a result, now Game Pass will become more accessible, and therefore more attractive for subscribers, but those who subscribed for Call of Duty have lost the reason to do it further. But Bobby Kotick is a business genius…
