Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo is live on Switch 2 and Xbox right now
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is no longer a PlayStation exclusive. Square Enix released a free demo on April 28 for Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, ahead of the full cross-platform launch on June 3, 2026. The game also comes to PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on the same day, meaning PS5 is finally joined by every major platform.
The demo
The demo covers Chapters 1 and 2, giving a substantial slice of the game's combat and exploration mechanics. On Xbox, download it directly from the Microsoft Store. On Switch 2, you'll need to enter a code in the eShop: D3GM3304HQ5BBMVB for Europe or D3GM3304HQ4BBMVB for the US.
Save data transfers to the full game, so any progress you make now isn't wasted. Completing the demo also unlocks two in-game bonus items: the Kupo Charm and a Survival Set — small rewards, but a tangible incentive to actually finish those opening hours.
Why it's worth your time
Rebirth originally launched on PS5 on February 29, 2024, and the critical reception was exceptional — Square Enix cites 125 perfect scores from press outlets and 40 Game of the Year awards. It sits just one Metacritic point below Final Fantasy IX, which remains the series' all-time highest-rated entry.
Square Enix ran the same playbook with Final Fantasy VII Remake earlier this year, bringing the first part of the trilogy to Xbox and Switch 2 — and that port was praised specifically for its performance and optimization. Rebirth is the bigger, more ambitious game, so how it runs on Switch 2's handheld hardware remains an open question until reviews land.
Pricing and availability
The full game launches June 3 across Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC (Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers both), PS5, Steam, and Epic. The Xbox version carries a 20% pre-launch discount until June 10, 2026 — worth noting if you're planning to buy on Microsoft's platform.
In the UK, the PS5 Standard Edition is currently on sale at £38.99 (40% off, ending May 6) via the PlayStation UK Store. The physical Switch 2 edition is priced at £49.99 and includes an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Zack Fair card. A third and final game in the trilogy is already in development on Unreal Engine 4.
