Croatian developer Croteam has announced The Talos Principle 3, the final chapter in its philosophical puzzle series. The game is set for a 2027 release on PS5 and PC via Steam — and there's no Xbox version confirmed at launch, a notable gap for a Devolver Digital title. The previous two entries both landed on Microsoft's consoles, making the absence worth watching.

The series so far

The Talos Principle 2 launched in November 2023 and sold over 100,000 copies in its first two weeks, per Game World Observer. Croteam called it the most acclaimed game in their 30-year history. The series puts players in the role of an android trying to make sense of a vanished human civilization — less action, more existential dread, with laser-focused puzzle design.

The third game carries that premise forward into a post-scarcity future involving terraformed worlds and questions about life, death, and what comes next. The writing team returns intact: Jonas Kyratzes, Verena Kyratzes, and Tom Jubert are all back, as is composer Damjan Mravunac, whose score has been a consistent highlight across the trilogy.

What's new this time

The developers describe The Talos Principle 3 as the "epic grand finale" of the trilogy, confirmed Games Press. Players will explore different time periods through fragmented personal memories, moving between ruined temples and abandoned research stations in a place called the Anomaly — described as the one location in the universe where physics doesn't behave normally. New puzzle mechanics are promised alongside returning ones, though specifics haven't been detailed yet.

No pricing has been announced. The Talos Principle 2 launched at $29.99 USD (£24.99 in the UK), so a similar bracket is a reasonable expectation — but nothing is confirmed.

The Xbox question

Devolver Digital rarely skips Xbox at launch. The platform omission here could reflect a timed exclusivity deal, funding arrangements, or simply a smaller team spreading resources across two platforms first. The gap is marked as "for now" in early coverage, leaving the door open for a later Xbox release. A Nintendo Switch 2 port has been speculated but is not official. Expect more platform details to surface as 2027 gets closer.
