GTA VI pre-orders haven't opened yet — but retailers are already hinting at May
Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI are not officially open — but retailers are dropping hints that the wait may almost be over. Best Buy reportedly sent emails to customers offering a pre-order discount window between May 18 and 21, and Sony has been nudging PS4 owners to upgrade to PS5 ahead of the game's launch. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed anything yet.
The signals
The Best Buy emails surfaced on Reddit, with multiple users sharing screenshots as proof of the discount window. Whether they were sent deliberately as part of a marketing push or went out by mistake is unclear. Separately, Sony has been emailing PS4 users without a PS5, pointing to GTA VI as the reason to upgrade — a move that strongly suggests a pre-order announcement is close.
The most likely date for an official announcement is May 21. Take-Two has an earnings call scheduled that day, and the company would almost certainly use it to confirm pricing, pre-order details, or a third trailer. GTA 6 Pre-Orders (Gizchina) confirmed no official pre-order date had been set as of May 10, with the earnings call flagged as the next key milestone.
What to expect
GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — PC has no confirmed date. The standard edition is expected to land at $69.99–$79.99, based on Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's comments to CNBC earlier this year. Collector's editions are expected in the $150–$200 range, though no tiers have been announced officially.
Watch out for scams
Fake pre-order pages are already circulating. When pre-orders do go live, the only safe places to buy are the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Walmart. Anything else should be treated with serious skepticism — Rockstar has not authorized any other storefronts, and the game is too high-profile not to attract fraud.
The May 18–21 window is unconfirmed, but with a November release date locked in, Rockstar can't stay quiet much longer.
