Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War IV gets a September 2026 release date
The wait for a proper Warhammer 40,000 RTS is nearly over. King Art Games and publisher Deep Silver have confirmed Dawn of War IV launches September 17, 2026, exclusively on PC via Steam. That's nine years since Dawn of War III landed as a MOBA-hybrid and alienated the series' core fanbase — and this game is a deliberate step back toward classic real-time strategy.
The game
Dawn of War IV returns to Kronus, the war-torn planet from the original series, with four playable factions: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus — the latter making its playable debut in the franchise. The campaign runs to more than 70 missions across those factions, featuring story decisions that shape the narrative and optional side missions with rewards. Co-op support is included throughout the campaign.
There's also a traditional online multiplayer mode for large-scale competitive battles, so it isn't purely a single-player game.
King Art is better known for Iron Harvest, a World War I-flavoured RTS that earned solid reviews, but Dawn of War IV is a much bigger bet. The studio is in Bremen, Germany, and is backed here by Deep Silver, which has a broader publishing footprint. As PCGamesN notes, the franchise's reputation took a serious hit in 2017, and trust with the PC strategy audience has to be rebuilt from scratch.
What's coming after launch
King Art has outlined post-launch content through spring 2027: a Crusade Mode with additional maps, a mission editor, a story expansion with a new campaign, and a fifth playable faction. Timelines beyond spring 2027 haven't been detailed.
Availability
Dawn of War IV is Steam-only at launch — no PS5 or Xbox versions have been confirmed. Regional pricing hasn't been announced yet, and no pre-order page is live on Steam at the time of writing. If you were burned by Dawn of War III, the September date gives you time to watch early impressions before committing.
