The company Specialized, often referred to as the “Apple of the bicycle world” for its combination of high technology and equally high prices, has introduced a new line of electric bicycles, the Vado 3 X. This time, the manufacturer decided that the urban jungle with its curbs and broken asphalt requires not just a suspension fork, but a full suspension. The novelty debuted in two versions: Vado 3 X 4.0 for $5500 (224,000 UAH) and the top Vado 3 X 6.0, for which one will have to pay $8000 (326,000 UAH).

SUV Comfort in Urban Conditions

The main feature of the Vado 3 X series is the transition to a full suspension design. While the Vado line used to be associated with comfortable, but still “paved” bikes, the boundary between urban transport and mountain models is now completely blurred. Full suspension is designed to smooth out any irregularities, turning the commute into smooth gliding, regardless of the quality of the road surface.

Both models are based on the updated Specialized 3.1 electrical system. The engine characteristics are impressive even for a light motorcycle: the torque is 105 Nm, and the peak power reaches 810 W. To give you an idea — that's enough to climb steep hills barely touching the pedals. The system is powered by a battery with a capacity of 840 Wh, which in ideal conditions allows you to travel up to 150 km on a single charge. If you plan a city-wide journey, there is an option to connect an external 280 Wh battery.

Digital Ecosystem on the Handlebars

Specialized engineers not only built a motor into the frame, but also created a full-fledged on-board computer. At the center of the handlebars is a 2.2-inch MasterMind C4 touchscreen display. Next to it is a smartphone mount with integrated wireless charging, which makes sense since the device will certainly run out of charge faster than the bike. Thanks to Bluetooth, the system synchronizes with an app, and owners of Apple Watch can display their heart rate data right on the bike's screen, turning the ride into a full workout.

Ready for Anything Right Out of the Box

The bicycle comes fully "equipped": protective fenders, a kickstand, a luggage rack, and integrated lighting. The front light delivers a true 805 lumens and has a high-beam function, which is critical for night rides in unlit parks. Four colors with a glossy metallic finish are available, emphasizing the premium status of this two-wheeled "off-roader".

Such technical challenges are reminiscent of situations where engineers have to balance between form and function, as was the case when creating the shark nose of the BMW ALPINA, where retro design became a real challenge for developers.
