OnePlus 16 rumored with 185Hz display and a 9,000mAh battery
OnePlus is reportedly preparing a spec-heavy flagship for late 2026, and the numbers are hard to ignore. Leaker Smart Pikachu — a reliable source for Chinese OEM roadmaps — claims the OnePlus 16 will pack a 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, a 185Hz OLED display, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, per Gizmochina. If the battery figure holds, it would be nearly double what Samsung and Apple currently put in their top-tier phones.
The specs
The display is a 6.78-inch BOE LTPO OLED panel with sub-1mm bezels. The 185Hz minimum refresh rate is already a step up from the OnePlus 15's 165Hz — and 240Hz is reportedly under evaluation, though human perception above 165Hz is debatable for most tasks. The chip is a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro paired with LPDDR6 RAM, aimed at on-device AI processing. OnePlus is also adding a dedicated hardware button to launch an AI assistant — a feature now showing up across several Android flagships.
On the camera side, the 200MP periscope telephoto keeps optical zoom at 3x, which suggests the megapixel count is meant to support heavy crop-and-zoom without visible quality loss rather than raw telephoto reach. The 9,000mAh "Glacier Battery" uses silicon-carbon anode technology — the same approach already deployed by Honor and Oppo — and charges at 100W wired and 50W wireless.
The catch
The starting price is tipped at around 5,000 Yuan — roughly £490 or $630 at current rates, and about 25% more than the OnePlus 15 launched at in China. That's the China price; global pricing is unconfirmed.
There's a bigger problem for UK and US buyers. OnePlus confirmed it was winding down European operations as of April 2026, according to PhoneArena. No UK retailer partnerships or carrier commitments for the OnePlus 16 have been announced. A China launch is expected around October 2026, but whether any global rollout follows remains unclear.
Worth watching?
The battery headline is genuinely compelling — a two-day flagship is something Apple and Samsung haven't delivered. But the specs are still in engineering validation, final figures can change, and for UK buyers especially, there's no confirmed path to purchase yet. Worth keeping an eye on, with cautious expectations.
