Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has announced a June 23 release date for Breach of Trust, the second major expansion for Frostpunk 2. The DLC flips the game's core premise: instead of managing a city against freezing temperatures, players face an active volcano threatening to destroy everything they've built. A free content update for all existing owners ships on the same day.

A city at the foot of a volcano

The expansion is set in New Edinburgh, a settlement powered by geothermal energy drawn from the volcano beneath it. That same energy source is now the problem. The trailer's narration makes the stakes plain — eruption is coming, panic is spreading, and every political faction in the city sees the chaos as an opportunity.

Two new environmental hazards, Tremors and Volcano Night, replace the blizzards of the base game. A new Vote of Trust mechanic tracks your approval rating across five new communities, each with its own ideology and agenda. Managing that political pressure while the ground shakes beneath you is the expansion's central tension.

On the content side, Breach of Trust adds two new scenario maps, five new buildings and hubs, an independent colony called Aurora, new laws, and a set of narrative events that branch based on your decisions. It's a substantial package for the price.

Price and availability

The DLC launches June 23 on Steam, Epic, GOG, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The Steam pre-order is priced at $7.30 — expect roughly £5.50–6.50 in the UK, though exact regional pricing hasn't been confirmed. Console retail availability through Amazon UK, GAME, and Currys is also unconfirmed. Xbox players on Game Pass get the expansion day one as part of their subscription.

The free simultaneous update for base-game owners adds new content without requiring the DLC purchase — a detail worth noting if you're on the fence about the expansion itself.

11 Bit Studios reached 11 million players across the Frostpunk franchise per Gematsu in April 2026. A further DLC codenamed Surge is planned for later in the year, and a Switch port of the original Frostpunk is also in the pipeline.
