Ugreen has announced the X865, a three-port 65W GaN charger that measures just 14.5mm thick — roughly the width of a smartphone in a slim case. It launched in China at 129 yuan (about $19), which, if European and UK pricing follows previous Ugreen models, would land well below the £30–34 that the existing Nexode 65W commands on Amazon.co.uk. Apple still bundles no charger with its phones; rivals like Anker and Baseus dominate UK retail. A cheaper, flatter option from Ugreen could shake up the space.

The hardware

The X865's full footprint is 84 × 53 × 15mm and it weighs 108g — closer to a pack of business cards than a traditional laptop brick. GaN (gallium nitride) technology is what makes the slim profile possible: it runs cooler and more efficiently than older silicon components, allowing Ugreen to shrink the internals without sacrificing output.

A foldable plug ships in the box, which removes the everyday annoyance of loose pins scratching other gear in a bag — something the Anker Nano II at £24.99 still doesn't offer, per Vivid Repairs UK.

Three ports, one brick

The port layout covers most scenarios:

- USB-C1 — up to 65W, enough for a MacBook Air or a Dell XPS 13. - USB-C2 — up to 30W, suited for fast-charging a phone or tablet. - USB-A — up to 22.5W for older cables, earbuds, or accessories.

When all three ports are in use simultaneously, power is shared across them, so the laptop port won't maintain its full 65W. For overnight charging of a full travel kit, though, one X865 replaces three separate adapters. The charger supports USB Power Delivery, PPS, Quick Charge, and Huawei's FCP and SCP protocols — covering virtually every fast-charging standard in common use.

Availability and price

The X865 is currently listed on JD.com in China only. Ugreen's EU store already carries the Nexode 65W, which signals the brand's intention to expand its compact charger lineup in Europe. No UK or US launch date has been confirmed for the X865 yet. Independent testing compiled by SmartGear Outlet shows existing Ugreen chargers match Anker on charging speed at 25–40% lower cost — if the X865 lands at a similar discount to its China price, it would be one of the more competitive 65W options in the £20–25 bracket.

The broader trend is clear: ultra-compact GaN chargers are becoming the default for anyone who travels with a laptop. Ugreen's X865 is another step in that direction, provided it makes it outside China.
