LEGO's new 1,252-piece Hubble Telescope set launches August 1
LEGO is releasing a full-scale collector model of the Hubble Space Telescope on August 1, priced at $139.99 in the US and £119.99 in the UK. The new Icons set (11382) contains 1,252 pieces — roughly three times the size of the 382-piece Hubble sub-model bundled with the 2021 Space Shuttle Discovery set. Pre-orders are open now on LEGO.com and at LEGO stores.
The build
The finished model measures 32 × 38 × 38 cm with its aperture door open. Adjustable solar panels, lens assemblies, and antenna mounts are all functional — meaning they actually move rather than sitting fixed. The exterior panels are removable, exposing an internal instrument bay that replicates Hubble's gyroscopes and primary and secondary mirrors. A single astronaut minifigure is included for scale reference.

The set ships with a display stand fitted with printed transparent panels depicting three of Hubble's most recognisable images: the Pillars of Creation, Galaxy NGC 2525, and the Butterfly Nebula.
Why now
The real Hubble has been in orbit since 1990 and is expected to deorbit sometime in the mid-2030s, per LEGO Official product notes and reporting by Brick Fanatics. That timeline gives the model an unusual emotional hook — a permanent plastic record of a telescope that won't be up there much longer.
For anyone who already owns the 2021 Space Shuttle Discovery (set 10283), upgrading to the standalone 11382 makes sense primarily for detail. The earlier Hubble was a compact bonus model; this one is the main event. The set is rated 18+, positioning it squarely at adult collectors rather than children.
Digital instructions
Like all current LEGO adult sets, the Hubble includes access to 3D step-by-step instructions through the LEGO Builder app — useful for a build of this complexity.
The $139.99 / £119.99 price sits in line with other LEGO Icons sets of similar scale. It goes on general sale August 1 at LEGO.com and in LEGO retail stores.
