Xiaomi pushes Android 17 to its flagships — but the real update is still months away
Xiaomi has started rolling out HyperOS 3.3 — built on Android 17 — to the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15T Pro, making it the first non-Pixel manufacturer to ship stable Android 17 to consumers. Samsung is still in One UI 9 beta. For Xiaomi 17 owners in the UK and US who picked one up from February's MWC launch, the update is available now via OTA.
What's actually in the update
Not much, by design. HyperOS 3.3 brings no visible changes to the interface and adds no new features. The changelog, per XimiTime, lists system stability improvements and the June 2026 security patch — that's it. The large file size (7.5 GB for the standard Xiaomi 17, 9.5 GB for the Ultra) is purely down to bundling the full Android 17 OS package.
The Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra are getting a full public release in both Global and European regions. The Xiaomi 15T Pro is a step behind — it's currently in Mi Pilot, Xiaomi's limited testing phase, meaning only enrolled testers get the update for now before a wider rollout begins.
Rollout is staged, so the notification may not appear immediately. To check manually, go to Settings > About phone and tap the HyperOS logo.
The bigger picture
As Android Authority notes, this is the first stable Android 17 build outside of Google's own Pixel line — a meaningful milestone even if the update itself is light. Xiaomi is essentially using HyperOS 3.3 as a platform upgrade rather than a feature drop.
The real overhaul is HyperOS 4, expected in August 2026 alongside the Xiaomi 18 series launch. That's where Xiaomi has reportedly reserved the visual redesign, new system features, and AI improvements. Older models are expected to follow from September onwards.
In the UK, the Xiaomi 17 launched at £899 and the 17 Ultra at £1,299 — both still available at those prices. If you own either, a 9.5 GB download needs a stable Wi-Fi connection and a decent chunk of free storage, so plan accordingly before starting the update.
