Tesla's $225 balance bike sold out instantly — and no, it doesn't have a motor
Tesla has launched a balance bike for kids priced at $225 — no motor, no pedals, just a minimalist two-wheeler aimed at toddlers. The first batch sold out immediately after going live on the Tesla Shop, with orders now shipping from August 2026. For a company that made its name on electric powertrains, a push-along bike is an unexpected detour.
The bike itself
The Tesla Balance Bike is built from a magnesium alloy frame in the brand's signature black-and-white color scheme. It targets children aged 2 to 5, supports a maximum rider weight of 35 kg, and offers five seat-height adjustment levels. A balance bike — sometimes called a run bike — has no pedals; kids push off the ground with their feet to build coordination and confidence before moving to a conventional bicycle.
The magnesium construction puts it at the upper end of the market. Direct competitors include the Strider 14x Sport at $220 and the Woom 1 at $249, per Electrek. Budget options like the Hornit AIRO sit around $73. Tesla's price is defensible on materials alone, but the brand premium is part of the pitch — this is squarely aimed at Tesla-owner parents who want the logo in their driveway and their child's garage.
Outside the US, you're out of luck
The launch is US-only for now. Tesla has made no announcement about availability in the UK or any other market, and no timeline has been confirmed for international sales, according to Basenor. UK buyers who want one will need to import or wait — and there's no indication of when, or whether, that changes.
What about an actual Tesla bike?
The Balance Bike does little to satisfy the long-running expectation of a Tesla electric bicycle for adults. The company has never officially confirmed an e-bike, but enthusiasm around the idea has persisted for years. This product suggests Tesla sees a lifestyle accessories lane worth exploring — whether a grown-up version follows is anyone's guess.
For now, the $225 toddler bike is the only Tesla on two wheels. If you want one in the US, join the waitlist; orders ship in late August 2026.
