Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: more expensive, barely changed, and Europe gets the worse chip
Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the headline news isn't the phone itself — it's the price hike and a regional chip split that hands US buyers a faster processor while UK and European customers pay premium prices for a lesser one. Pre-orders opened July 22 at Samsung's London Unpacked event; the phone goes on sale August 7.
The chip divide
The US version runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The UK and European version ships with Samsung's own Exynos 2600 — the same chip in the base Galaxy S26. That matters because Android Authority confirms the split is driven by DRAM cost pressures, not performance goals. In S26 testing, the Exynos variant already showed worse battery life than the Snapdragon model. The Z Flip 8's compact chassis gives that chip even less room to breathe, raising real concerns about heat and endurance under daily use.
What you're actually paying for
The 256GB model starts at €1,299 — €100 more than the Z Flip 7. The 512GB version jumps to €1,499, a €180 increase. A UK price of £1,149 has been reported but not yet confirmed by Samsung. For that money, Gagadget EN notes the hardware upgrades are minimal: the main 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is unchanged, the 4.1-inch cover screen is unchanged, the 50MP + 12MP camera setup is unchanged, and the 4,300mAh battery is unchanged. The phone does shed 8 grams, dropping to 180g.
The one genuine upgrade is the FlexWindow interface on the cover display. Samsung has overhauled it with a new feature called Now Brief — an AI-driven summary that surfaces relevant actions and information without you needing to open the phone. Widget support has also been expanded. It's a useful improvement, but it's fundamentally a software update wearing hardware clothing.

The bottom line
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 arrives in Cream, Pink, and Graphite (Mint is a US online exclusive). If you're upgrading from a Z Flip 6 or older, the package still makes sense. Coming from a Z Flip 7? The case is much harder to make — especially in the UK and Europe, where you're paying more for a chip the US doesn't have to settle for.
