Veterans of BioWare — the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age — have formed Studio Reset and announced their debut game, The Eventide. Revealed on July 29, 2026, it's a neon-noir supernatural mystery set in a small fictional Canadian city. The studio was co-founded by Kaelin Lavallée, Kris Schoneberg, and Francis Lacuna, with additional colleagues from Inflexion Games and Timbre Games. Canada Media Fund backed the project with CAD$250,000 through its Interactive Digital Media Prototyping program.

The pitch

The Eventide puts players in charge of a team of specialists investigating paranormal cases. Each call-out requires choosing which agent to send — and that choice matters. Every character carries their own worldview, backstory, and set of beliefs, which shapes how they read a crime scene. That's the core of the Parallax Deduction system: the same piece of evidence can point two agents to completely different conclusions. As the developers put it, solving a case isn't just about finding clues — it's about experiencing events through a character's eyes and interpreting what those clues actually mean.

The studio cites The X-Files and party-based RPGs as its main inspirations, rather than a direct comparison to any single game. The visual style leans into oil-painting aesthetics, and gameplay appears centered on dialogue and careful location exploration.

The studio's bet

Studio Reset was founded with a deliberate philosophy: build a team that doesn't need a massive hit to stay alive. The founders explicitly walked away from AAA pressure, arguing that smaller teams move faster and stay creatively focused without the hit-dependent economics that define big-budget development. The CMF grant is prototype-tier funding — seed money for early development, not a full production budget — which fits the cautious, sustainable model the studio is pitching.

When to expect it

No release date has been announced. The Eventide is currently in early development and is listed on Steam for wishlisting on PC. No console versions or pricing have been confirmed. The Games Press announcement lists no additional platform roadmap.
