The man who helped build Fallout from scratch might be heading back to the wasteland. Windows Central's Jez Corden said on the Deyton Dykes podcast that inXile Entertainment is working on a Fallout game. The project is described as very early stage — no guarantee it ever ships — but the studio connection makes the rumor hard to ignore.

The Fargo factor

Brian Fargo co-founded Interplay in 1983 and produced the original Fallout and Fallout 2 in the late 1990s. He launched inXile in 2002 and has stayed in the RPG space ever since, with credits including Wasteland 2 and Wasteland 3 — the latter a post-apocalyptic RPG that carries clear echoes of classic Fallout design. If inXile does take on a Fallout project, Fargo's instincts would likely pull it toward a top-down, story-heavy RPG rather than Bethesda's open-world first-person style.

inXile has been part of Xbox Game Studios since 2018, so a Fallout collaboration within the Microsoft umbrella is structurally plausible — no licensing hurdles, no competing owners.

A fifth project on top of four confirmed ones

Bethesda confirmed in July 2025 that four Fallout games are already in development: Fallout 5, remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and a new spinoff from Obsidian Entertainment. An inXile project would sit alongside all of that — unconfirmed, early, and separate from Bethesda's own roadmap.

Xbox head Asha Sharma has made exclusive content a clear priority. Clockwork Revolution, inXile's steampunk RPG confirmed as an Xbox console exclusive for 2027, shows the studio is already deep in Microsoft's content strategy. A Fallout title — even years out — fits the same pattern.

Still a rumor

Neither inXile, Bethesda, nor Microsoft has confirmed anything. Corden is a reliable source with a strong track record on Xbox news, but "very early stage" can mean pre-production, a pitch, or something in between. The Clockwork Revolution team is still finishing that game first — so if a Fallout project exists at inXile, it isn't close. For now it's worth watching, not expecting.
