NVIDIA's RTX PRO 6000 now costs $16,000 — double its launch price
NVIDIA has raised the price of its RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition to $16,000 on its official marketplace — exactly double the $8,565 MSRP it carried at launch in March 2025. The card packs 96GB of GDDR7 ECC memory, making it the most capable desktop workstation GPU NVIDIA sells, but that memory is also the main reason prices have spiraled. Anyone buying or budgeting for a workstation upgrade right now is looking at a very different number than they planned for.
The memory problem
The 96GB of GDDR7 is not just a spec — it is the cost driver. AI hyperscalers are consuming roughly 70% of global memory supply, prioritizing HBM (high-bandwidth memory) for data-center chips. That leaves GDDR7 — the type used in the RTX PRO 6000 — competing for whatever wafer capacity remains. NVIDIA itself cut RTX 50-series production by 30–40% in early 2026 because of the shortage. The same dynamic is hitting the consumer market. The RTX 5090 — NVIDIA's top consumer card with a $1,999 MSRP — now sells for $4,300 to $5,000 on the street. Partner boards for the RTX PRO 6000, such as the PNY version, list around $11,360, a discount of only about 14% from NVIDIA's own price — thin relief for enterprise buyers. The new $16,000 figure is already live on NVIDIA's official marketplace, and suppliers are preparing shipments at the updated price.
What this means for buyers
Businesses planning workstation refreshes need to revise their hardware budgets upward — significantly. The GDDR7 shortage is forecast to persist through 2027, so there is no near-term correction coming. For teams that need high-memory GPU compute but can't justify $16,000 per card, cloud-based GPU rentals — H100 or B200 instances on AWS or Azure — are becoming the more practical comparison point rather than an outright purchase.
