Control Resonant goes gold — but physical copies are three weeks behind

Control Resonant has gone gold, meaning development is finished and the game is locked in for its September 24 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Remedy Entertainment confirmed the milestone alongside a catch: physical console editions won't ship until October 15, a three-week delay that leaves disc buyers exposed to spoilers from day-one players.

The split that stings

The digital-physical gap is the sharpest friction point heading into launch. PS5 Digital Deluxe owners get it even earlier — a 48-hour head start on September 22 — while anyone waiting on a boxed copy sits out the entire first wave of coverage, streams, and reviews. In the US, the standard edition is priced at $59.99 and the Digital Deluxe at $69.99. UK buyers are looking at £44.99–£59.99 depending on edition (Smyths, Amazon). No Game Pass day-one deal has been announced, so there's no budget workaround for Xbox subscribers on launch day.

Remedy fully owns the Control IP after buying it back from 505 Games for €17 million in February 2024. The studio is self-publishing Control Resonant with co-financing from Annapurna, which means no publisher pulling strings — but also no safety net if sales disappoint.

A new hero, a new city, a new genre

Control Resonant drops Jesse Faden as protagonist in favor of her brother Dylan — previously seen as a prisoner and test subject of the Federal Bureau of Control. The setting moves out of the Oldest House and onto the streets of a warped Manhattan, where a supernatural disaster has left buildings hanging sideways and upside down, opening up gravity-defying traversal across rooftops and vertical surfaces.

The gameplay shift is just as dramatic. The sequel moves away from the third-person shooter style of the original toward melee-focused action that GamesRadar+ compares to Devil May Cry. The main story runs around 30 hours; completionists should budget about 50 hours. A Mac version is confirmed for later in 2026 via Steam and the App Store.

What to do now

Pre-orders are open now across all platforms. If you're on PS5 and want to avoid spoilers, the Digital Deluxe edition is the clearest path to playing first. Physical buyers should be aware the October 15 disc release comes three weeks into an already-live conversation — plan accordingly or go digital, per Remedy Entertainment (X).
