Apple's September event date confirmed: iPhone 16, Watch Series 10, and more
Apple is holding its annual fall hardware event on September 9, 2024, according to insider Majin Bu. The date corrects earlier speculation that pegged the show for September 8. Pre-orders open September 13, with devices hitting shelves on September 20.
The lineup
The headliners are the iPhone 16 family — standard, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max — powered by Apple's new A18 and A18 Pro chips. The Pro models add a dedicated Camera Control button on the right side of the frame, a hardware shortcut for shooting photos and video. Pricing holds steady: the iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 / £999, matching the iPhone 15 Pro launch price from 2023, per GSMArena.
Also confirmed for September 9: Apple Watch Series 10 and the new AirPods 4. The Watch brings a thinner chassis and a larger display compared to Series 9. AirPods 4 come in two tiers, one with Active Noise Cancellation and one without.
In just a few days, Apple will send out invitations for the 2026 Apple event. ???

What's not coming
Mark Gurman and other sources had floated AirPods with built-in cameras as a possibility for 2024 — that's now pushed to 2025 at the earliest. A foldable iPhone, sometimes labeled "iPhone Ultra," is not arriving this year either; the earliest credible speculation now points to a 2026 event. Apple Watch Series 12 is similarly a 2026 story, not 2024.
A HomePod refresh is also absent from the September 9 lineup. A new HomePod and HomePod mini are not expected until 2026, tied to Apple's internal readiness of its Siri AI platform.
Apple Intelligence
The bigger software story running alongside the hardware is Apple Intelligence — Apple's on-device AI feature set built into iOS 18. It launches in October 2024 in the US, in English only. UK and other English-language markets follow shortly after; broader language support comes later. Apple Newsroom confirmed the A18 chip is built specifically to run these AI features locally, without routing data to the cloud for most tasks.
If you're on an iPhone 15 or older and were waiting for a foldable before upgrading, 2024 isn't the year to hold out for one. For everyone else, September 20 is the date to mark.
