Garmin Fenix 9 Pro: 291-day battery, titanium case, and a $1,100 starting price
Garmin has officially unveiled the Fenix 9 Pro, its new top-tier outdoor smartwatch, and the headline number is hard to ignore: up to 291 days of battery life on the Solar model. The watch starts at $1,100 in the US and £949.99 in the UK, with orders opening August 28. For that price, you get a titanium case, a bright new AMOLED screen, and enough storage to carry detailed offline maps across a continent.
The display
The Fenix 9 Pro comes in three sizes — 43 mm, 47 mm, and 51 mm — with AMOLED panels measuring 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5 inches respectively. Peak brightness hits 3,000 nits, which matches the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and makes the screen readable in direct sunlight. Garmin also offers Solar variants for the 47 mm and 51 mm models, which swap AMOLED for transflective MiP displays with integrated solar cells. Colors are less vivid, but the battery gains are significant.

The battery claim
The 291-day figure applies specifically to the Solar 51 mm model running in energy-saving mode with consistent sunlight — conditions that won't apply to most users in the UK or northern US states. In normal use, that same Solar model lasts 57 days; the AMOLED version manages 31 days. Both are a clear step up from the Fenix 8, per Notebookcheck specs.

The hardware
The titanium case is rated to 10 ATM and dive-certified to 40 meters. Storage doubles from 32 GB to 64 GB — useful if you rely on offline mapping in areas without cell coverage. The Elevate 5 sensor handles heart rate, SpO2, skin temperature, and ECG. A built-in LED torch now cycles through white, red, and green light modes.
An optional inReach version adds an LTE modem and satellite messaging for emergencies at an extra $100 (£100 in the UK). That version requires a separate subscription, and satellite coverage is inconsistent outside Garmin's primary US network — worth checking before buying if you plan to use it abroad, per TechRadar live coverage.

Software and pricing
A new feature called Garmin Epic strings together multi-day activities into a single summary with health data and photos. Garmin also promises smoother map scrolling and pinch-to-zoom on the AMOLED models.
Pricing starts at $1,100 / £949.99 for the 43 mm and 47 mm AMOLED, and $1,200 / £1,099 for the 51 mm. The Solar variants sit at the same price points. Add $100 / £100 for inReach. Apple Watch Ultra 2 costs £799 in the UK — Garmin undercuts it on battery life but charges a premium for the titanium Pro build. Pre-orders open August 28.
