Rockstar has shown Grand Theft Auto VI in action for the first time, dropping a roughly 30-minute gameplay reveal that premiered on Netflix before hitting YouTube. The footage confirms a November 19, 2026 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — consoles only, with no PC window announced — and sets a new visual benchmark for open-world games.

The setup

The clip opens with former soldier-turned-drug-runner Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a hand-to-hand combat specialist fresh out of prison, arriving at a deal with a group of colorful traffickers in Vice City. Police raid the scene almost immediately, and the two have to shoot their way out. The rest of the reel cuts through other story moments without giving away much of the plot.

What stands out isn't only the visual fidelity — though it's striking. Every environment is dense with small, interactable details. Jason and Lucia's apartment is full of objects you can pick up and use: open the fridge, grab a beer, sit on the couch, switch on the TV, and browse Rockstar's trademark library of satirical shows and fake ads. Environmental destruction also appears to be in-engine rather than scripted; in the drug den raid, a character grabs a cop and smashes him through a wall mid-gameplay, not during a cutscene.

Performance and new systems

The footage was recorded on a base PS5 at 30fps, per the Rockstar official delay announcement. That confirms standard console owners get the same experience as PS5 Pro users, with full ray tracing, global illumination, and long draw distances. There's no 60fps mode mentioned, which will likely frustrate players who've come to expect it as the baseline for PS5 titles.

Car physics land somewhere between GTA IV's heavy handling and GTA V's arcade feel — heavier than V, faster than IV. The wanted system has also been overhauled: police now track your specific vehicle, clothing, and appearance rather than triggering an abstract star-level search. Switching outfits or swapping cars matters.

What's missing

The PlayStation Store listing confirms pre-orders are live in the US and UK. Console exclusivity at launch is confirmed; a PC release has not been announced. With two delays already — originally 2025, then pushed to May 2026, now November 2026 — the November date will face scrutiny until the game actually ships.

Development reportedly began in concept form in 2013, with full production ramping up after Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped in 2018. Twelve years in the making, GTA VI now has a release date and footage to show for it. Whether 30fps holds up as an acceptable trade-off for all that visual density is the debate that's already started.
