Xiaomi 18 Fold launches September 7 with a 200MP Leica camera — don't expect it at your carrier
Xiaomi is announcing its new flagship foldable, the 18 Fold, on September 7 in China — two days before Apple's expected iPhone Ultra event. The phone packs a 200MP Leica-branded main camera and a 6,000 mAh battery into a slim mid-fold design. If history is any guide, though, neither the US nor UK will ever see it for sale: no Xiaomi Mix Fold has ever left China.
The hardware
The camera system leads with a 200MP, 1/1.56-inch sensor behind a Leica Summilux lens — the same optics brand Xiaomi has used on its flagship phones. Two 50MP modules back it up: a periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom and an ultra-wide. That's the setup Xiaomi's CEO Lu Weibing previewed on Weibo this week, posting sample shots ahead of the official launch.
The battery story is more interesting than the spec sheet suggests. Xiaomi fitted a 6,000 mAh cell — up from 5,100 mAh in last year's Mix Fold 4 — without making the phone thicker. The company's new Jinshajiang battery uses a silicon content 20% higher than the previous generation and reaches an energy density of 920 Wh/L. In practical terms, that means more capacity in the same physical space.
The 18 Fold uses a "mid-fold" layout: a 5.38-inch cover display and a 7.58-inch inner screen with a near 4:3 ratio, sized for tablet-style multitasking. Under the hood sits Xiaomi's own XRing O3 chipset, built on a 3nm process, paired with LPDDR6 memory. The phone runs HyperOS 4 on top of Android 17.
What this means outside China
Essentially nothing, for now. Android Authority notes that Xiaomi has not confirmed any international version. The entire Mix Fold lineage has been China-exclusive, and there is no sign the 18 Fold breaks that pattern. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 remains the only serious wide-format foldable you can actually buy at a US or UK retailer.
Leaked pricing puts the 18 Fold at around ¥12,000 — roughly $1,650 — which would slot it between the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the expected iPhone Ultra. That's a competitive price on paper, but irrelevant without a Western launch. Full specs and official pricing arrive September 7, per GSMArena.
