OnePlus 16: 9,000mAh battery and 185Hz display — but not for you
OnePlus has officially previewed the OnePlus 16 ahead of its October 2026 launch in China — and on paper, it's the brand's most capable phone in years. The problem: it won't be sold in the US, UK, or anywhere in Europe through official channels. OnePlus completed its Western market exit in July 2026, leaving its former fans with grey imports as their only option.
The hardware
The OnePlus 16 packs a 9,000mAh battery — 25% larger than the OnePlus 15 — with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. That's a genuinely large cell by any standard, well ahead of rivals like the Galaxy S26 Ultra or iPhone 17 Pro Max. The phone runs a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip with LPDDR6 RAM, and ships in four storage configurations up to 16GB/1TB.

The display is a flat BOE X4 OLED panel running at 165Hz system-wide and hitting 185Hz in supported games — a refresh rate that puts it in gaming monitor territory. The camera stack leads with a 200MP main sensor (1/1.4-inch) flanked by two 50MP units for ultrawide and telephoto. Software is ColorOS 17 on Android 17, with no OxygenOS variant planned for Western markets.
The look
OnePlus is releasing the phone in three colours: Dark Forest, Martian Masterpiece, and Tomorrow Starlight. The last of those is the most striking — its back panel includes interactive lighting that illuminates the OnePlus logo and a set of celestial coordinates etched into the chassis. The camera module uses a square metal block with rounded corners, and a customisable AI key sits on the side frame, in line with the trend set by Sony and Samsung.
China only
Starting price in China is around CNY 5,000 — a 25% jump over the OnePlus 15, attributed to the cost of the new Snapdragon platform. Outside China, the OnePlus 16 has no official release date because there is no official release. UK store shelves are empty, per Memeburn, and senior regional staff departed during the brand's restructuring earlier this year.
Grey imports are technically possible but carry real risks: no local warranty, uncertain carrier band compatibility, and a ColorOS build with no regional support. Anyone in the market for a flagship with similarly aggressive battery specs might want to look at the iQOO 16's 2K 165Hz panel — another China-first phone, but one that at least has a wider distribution path.
