Samsung unveils 200MP ISOCELL HP1 image sensor

South Korean company Samsung announced the ISOCELL HP1 sensor. It became the world's first image sensor for smartphones, which resolution is 200 megapixels (16,384 x 12,288 dots).

What is known?

Samsung ISOCELL HP1 does not have the largest pixels. Their size is 0.64 µm. According to the manufacturer, the compact size of the sensor can solve the problem of integration in thin smartphones, where every millimeter of space is worth its weight in gold.

The sensor supports ChameleonCell technology, which is responsible for improving the quality of materials in the absence of light. By combining 16 pixels, the size increases to 2.56 microns, and the smartphone can take pictures in dusk and darkness with 12.5 MP resolution.

Samsung ISOCELL HP1 supports shooting video in 8K ULTRA HD at 30 FPS. Recording is done in 50MP mode by combining four adjacent pixels.

When to expect?

Samsung ISOCELL HP1 is expected to debut in the Xiaomi 12 smartphone. But it's not officially confirmed yet. The announcement of the next-generation flagship is scheduled for late fall this year.
