Samsung has ended the lifecycle of its old flagship Galaxy Note

2016 was a difficult year for Samsung's mobile division. It had to recall all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones due to a mass fire. Nevertheless, the manufacturer decided to release a slightly modified version of the flagship later, and now it is officially coming to the end of its life cycle.

Who are we talking about?

And we are talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition model, aka simply FE. It has two key differences from the Galaxy Note 7. First - reduced from 3500 mAh to 3200 mAh capacity of the built-in battery. The second is Android 7.1.1 Nougat instead of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow right out of the box. The Fan Edition version ended up upgrading to Android 9.0 Pie, while the original model didn't manage to get a single operating system update.

Samsung Galaxy Note FE continued to receive software updates after Android 9.0 Pie, but they were limited to security patches. Now the South Korean company has removed the smartphone from the list of models on the official website for which software updates are released.

Anything else?

The manufacturer has also recalled the 2018 smartphone in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. It went on sale with Android 8.1 Oreo and updated to Android 10 before continuing to receive security patches. While it used to get updates every month, now new patches will only appear once every quarter.
