Silicon scarcity continues to have a negative impact on the smartphone market. In the third quarter of 2021 it [market] sagged by 6%, as reported by analytical agency Canalys.
Samsung retained its 23% and remained in first place. The gap between the leader and the main chaser narrowed slightly as Apple was able to increase its smartphone shipments and increased its share from 12% to 15%.
Xiaomi was also in the top three. It still controls 14% of the market. OPPO and Vivo continue to walk a pair. In the base period, their share was 9% each, and in the reporting period - 10%.
As noted, the market sagged by 6% year-on-year due to component shortages. By the end of the year the deficit is dictating its conditions even more persistently, although in spring experts were optimistic. A total of 327 million smartphones appeared on the market in the third quarter. A year earlier - 348 million units.
So far, there is no suggestion that manufacturers will be able to replenish stocks by the end of the year. Therefore, it is not worth counting on big discounts during the holiday season.
