OPPO showed off its ray tracing technology in action at its OPC 2021 developer conference, which could appear in the manufacturer's smartphones in the future.

What's known

The OPPO Reno 6 Pro 5G was chosen for the experiment, equipped with a 6-nanometer Dimensity 1200 mobile processor with up to 3.0 GHz and Mali-G77 MC9 graphics. According to the manufacturer, the technology is part of ColorOS software and is built on the Vulkan API.

Ray Tracing can be used not only in games. OPPO says that the technology will find applications in live wallpaper and augmented reality applications. It is expected to debut commercially in 2022.

Recall that Samsung is also working on ray tracing technology for smartphones. The South Korean company will add its support to its flagship Galaxy S22 models, which will receive branded Exynos processors.
