November 9 Google introduces mandatory two-step authentication: what does it mean?

Back in May Google promised to make two-step authentication mandatory for users of its services. And now that time has come.

What it means

The changes will take effect next week, November 9, and the company has already started sending users relevant notifications. Two-step authentication means that to log into your account you will need not just the password you made up, but and a one-time password, which you receive in a text message or email.

"After entering your password, you will need to take one more action with your smartphone. Keep your phone handy when logging in to . Two-step authentication will be automatically activated on November 9. If you want, you can activate this feature in advance: your account is ready", - said in a Google alert.

Stealing passwords is the most common way to break into accounts, especially since considering that not everyone tries to come up with a complex password. And Google's two-factor authentication is designed to combat this and improve security.
