Qualcomm retains market leadership in smartphone processors in China

Qualcomm continues to lead the market for mobile smartphone processors in China, according to research by analytical agency CINNOResearch.

What is known

In September 2021 the American chipmaker delivered 8.6 million single-chip systems to the market. That's 59.2% more than a year ago, but 18.5% less than in August of this year.

MediaTek's shipments were down 17.4% from the last month of summer. It shipped 8.4 million mobile processors to the market and ranked second. The top three is followed by Apple. It shipped 3.7 million chips, 32.5% more than in August 2021 and 43.6% more than in September 2020.

HiSilicon and UNISOC also made the top 5. The former shipped 1.6 million chipsets, the latter 1.2 million. Interestingly, UNISOC shipments were up more than 10,000% compared to September 2020.

And Qualcomm and MediaTek share 1-2 places in the third quarter, having supplied 28.8 million mobile processors in the first month of fall 2021. For the year shipments grew by 9% and 9.3% respectively. Third place goes to Apple (9.4 million), fourth to HiSilicon (5.8 million) and fifth to UNISOC (4.1 million).
