Apple announces Self Service Repair for those who want to repair their iPhone at home

Barely had time for the world to digest the happy news that unauthorized iPhone 13 screen replacement no longer disables Face ID, but Apple has gone even further. Meet Apple's Original Parts Access Program for home users - Self Service Repair.

What the program is for

According to Apple, the program Self Service Repair will allow customers who are ready to do their own repairs to have access to genuine Apple parts and tools. Self Service Repair will be available first for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, and later for Macs with M1 chips.

Self Repair will be available early next year in the US and will roll out to other countries throughout 2022. The initial phase of the program will focus on the most commonly serviced parts, such as the iPhone display, battery and camera. Additional features will appear later next year.

How the program works

Customers first review the Repair Guide and then place an order for genuine Apple parts and tools in the new Apple Self Service Repair Online Store. After the repair, customers who return a used part for recycling will receive credit toward their next purchase.

The new store will feature more than 200 individual parts and tools, allowing customers to perform the most common repairs on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.
