A very strange novelty: Sharp has released a secure push-button clamshell with Android and a pedometer

Despite the fact that the year 2022 is on the calendar, Sharp decided to play on nostalgia and released a clamshell phone. And it is not a modern folding model with a flexible screen, but an ordinary push-button one like a decade or two ago.

Here's What We've Seen

So, meet Sharp Aquos Keitai 4 with the usual push-button keyboard and the Android operating system. The characteristics of the smartphone are quite modest (and that's an understatement): A 3.4-inch LCD display with 960×540 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 processor, just 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM, a single 8-megapixel camera and a 1680 mAh battery with a USB Type-C charging port.

There's a small additional screen on the outside that displays the time, notifications and other important information. Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only), Bluetooth 5 and a built-in pedometer are also claimed.

Most interestingly, the flip phone has got protection against water, dust and shock - it even meets the military standard MIL-STD-810H.

The Sharp Aquos Keitai 4 will go on sale at the end of the month, but only in Japan - it is unlikely the novelty is intended for other countries. The price of the device is still unknown.
