There was a smartphone spontaneous combustion in Ohio. It was reported on social media by the Leisgang couple, the owners of the house.

Here's What We Know

The fire happened to an old iPhone 4, which was released in 2010 and had been in the family for about 10 years. It had been left charging overnight. Fortunately, it was in the kitchen and there were no flammable items or materials nearby, so no major fire occurred and no family members were injured.

"We were extremely lucky to avoid a house fire. Our kids were charging our old iPhone 4 with the apple charger last night and it exploded and caught on fire in our kitchen while we were sleeping", the couple said.

What exactly caused the fire - the charger, the lithium-ion battery or the "age" of the smartphone - is unclear.

By the way, the incident was filmed by a Google video camera installed in the house.
