Battle of the 'insides': Dbrand and blogger JerryRigEverything accuse Casetify of plagiarising smartphone cases

Cases and stickers that imitate the internal components of a smartphone, laptop, etc., are no longer rare nowadays. In today's market, there is even competition among manufacturers of such accessories. However, it is one thing to borrow an idea, and another to completely copy the design.

Details

Dbrand produces accessories with this design in collaboration with blogger Zack Nelson, who is better known as JerryRigEverything. But recently they noticed that Casetify's products looked suspiciously similar to their range.

Zack even recorded a video in which he made a convincing argument. For example, the JerryRigEverything and Dbrand cases have some "passphrases" on them: frequently used quotes from Nelson's YouTube channel, Dbrand's founding date, their logo, and even the famous Dbrand pyramid. Casetify copied this design in an attempt to hide some of the more obvious elements. But they didn't do a good job at it.

So Zach Nelson and Dbrand filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Casetify for copyright infringement. They accuse the competitor of plagiarising and copying their design.

In turn, Casetify wrote on social media that cases with this design have been removed from the shop, and immediately after the accusation, their website was hacked. The company says it is now investigating allegations of copyright infringement, but calls itself a "bastion of originality.
