The Russian Navy has received the nuclear-powered submarine Emperor Alexander III, which will be armed with Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles

Russian media reports that the strategic missile cruiser Emperor Alexander III has joined the fleet. The submarine is the seventh vessel of Project 955A.

Here's What We Know

"Emperor Alexander III" is a nuclear-powered submarine that was laid down in 2015 and launched seven years later. The submarine is 170 metres long, 13.5 metres wide and has a displacement of 24,000 tonnes.

The cruiser is part of the nuclear triad. It will be armed with Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles (SS-NX-30 according to NATO classification). The maximum launch range is 9,300 kilometres.

The intercontinental ballistic missile can be equipped with 6-10 warheads. According to open sources, the power of the nuclear charge will be from 100 to 150 kilotons.
