Lionsgate schedule reshuffle: John Wick spin-off 'Ballerina' is postponed, giving way to 'The Crow' remake

The highly anticipated John Wick franchise spin-off starring Ana de Armas, titled Ballerina, will be delayed by a full year. From a scheduled premiere this summer, the film has reportedly been pushed back to the summer of 2025.

Here's What We Know

Ballerina will now be replaced by a remake of the 1994 cult classic, The Crow, starring Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven.

Deadline cites Chad Stahelski joining the project to work on "additional fight scenes" as the reason for the "Ballerina" delay. If Stahelski's skill will make "Ballerina" as popular as the "John Wick" films, then the delay is justified.

As for "The Crow," the reboot intends to "breathe new life" into one of the darkest thrillers of the '90s. The original "The Crow" took an honourable place in the list of "cursed films" due to the tragic death of Brandon Lee, who was fatally wounded during the filming of the movie. Despite a TV series and three unsuccessful sequels, the new reboot will face a daunting task in trying to surpass the 1994 legacy and maintain its mysterious and mystical image.

When We Can Expect It

The new "The Crow" will take up the vacated slot and will be released on 7 June 2024, while "Ballerina" has been pushed back to 6 June 2025.
