Microsoft is testing an updated Edge sidebar that can be pinned to the desktop

Microsoft is testing a new Edge feature that will make the sidebar even more useful. In Canary 114.01.1789.0, you can now pin it directly to your desktop, as shown in the video below:

The Edge sidebar now has the ability to detach, allowing users to access Bing's AI chatbot and other tools without opening a web page, and the sidebar will remain open even if you minimise the browser window. According to Windows Central, this feature is currently only available to a select subset of Canary and Dev members, so it may not be available to you yet.

Flashback

The Edge sidebar contains many useful tools, such as the Bing chatbot, an image generator, shortcuts to email and Office, and more. And you can customise all of these tools to suit your needs.

The ability to open the sidebar on top of other apps can be really useful, for example, when you are working on a document in Microsoft Word and need to ask the Bing AI chatbot something. Hopefully, the feature will make it to the stable version of Edge.
