For two nights in a row, the Ukrainian Defence Forces have used maritime drones to target Russian ships. The new victim was a SIG tank.

Here's What We Know

On Friday night, marine drones attacked a Russian Federation base in Novorossiysk. The successful attack put the large landing ship Olenegorsk Miner of the Russian Navy out of action.

A day later, a naval drone equipped with 450kg of TNT rammed a SIG oil tanker. The ship has been under US sanctions since 2019 due to fuel shipments from occupied Crimea to Syria.

According to Ukrainian media, the successful attack was the result of joint work by the Ukrainian Navy and the Security Service of Ukraine. The SIG tanker was struck in Ukrainian territorial waters near the Kerch bridge about 50 kilometres off the coast.

The tanker's crew said that the SIG was unable to move after receiving a starboard side breach. Russian media published several photos. One of the pictures shows the flooding of the engine room.
